Flow

Installation

  1. Startup Accelario server – it is deployed as virtual appliance

  2. Attach storage as block device to the Accelario server

  3. Install agents on source and target servers

Basic operations

  1. Configure GI and perform first refresh.
The refresh is done using standard database vendor backup tools, e.g. RMAN in Oracle
As a result, the storage is filled with a duplicate of source database.
Actual consumption is 35% of the original database, since Accelario performs inline compression.

  2. Configure VDB and start it up.
As a result, a new database instance is running on the target server.
The database engine is not aware that it runs on virtual volume, this is fully transparent.

  3. End users connect to the VDB as they connect to any other database.
The credentials of the VDB are automatically changed.

Advanced operations

Besides the basic operations described above, Accelario Virtualization provides more advanced options, like:

  1. Continuous refresh of a GI

  2. Recover VDB to point in time

  3. Starting multiple VDBs from the same GI

  4. Nested VDB – VDB that is started from another VDB

  5. Long-term duplicates of VDB
