Oracle Target Management

General

A target host is a server that hosts the target databases - VDB’s. The target includes definitions of DB Homes - which are the installations of database software on the target hosts that are used to run VDBs.

Targets management

  1. On the navigation bar, click Targets.

The Target Hosts view is displayed, listing all target hosts that have been added to the system

You can quickly locate a target host by typing its letters on the Search bar. The list updates promptly.

The target host maybe Linux or AIX only.

Target DB Home

Add a DB Home

  1. On the navigation bar, click Targets.

  2. Select the required agent

  3. Click the (+) sign in the right panel

  4. Select a DB type.

  5. Enter a name for the DB Home and an optional description

  6. The application runs an automatic discovery of all installed Oracle database software and presents them in a list. More details on how discovery works . Pay attention: the discovery is based on running Oracle databases.

  7. You may choose from the list or enter the details manually

  8. DB Home parameters

    Oracle Home Dir - the ORACLE_HOME directory(filled automatically if chosen from discovery list)
    OS User - OS user that runs the database instance(filled automatically if chosen from discovery list)
    Port - listener port (filled automatically if chosen from discovery list)
    RAC instance name - the logical name of the RAC (Real Application Cluster), only used if the DB home is part of RAC

  9. Enable Direct NFS - the direct NFS (dNFS) protocol may improve VDB performance by 10% to 50%. It has some restrictions - please read them before making decision on whether to use this option.
    when pressed then it will check whether dNFS is enabled in this Oracle Home.

    1. If already enabled - an appropriate message will be shown, no action will be done

    2. If not enabled - the application will ask you how do you want to enable dNFS :

      1. Manual - instructions on how to do it will be displayed, no action will be done

      2. Automatic - the application will enable dNFS by itself. Pay attention that this change may affect any Oracle instance running under this ORACLE_HOME, even the ones that are not managed by Accelario.

  10. Click Add.

After the DB Home is added, the following message appears: DB Home has been added.

Modify a DB Home

  1. On the navigation bar, click Targets.

  2. Select the required agent

  3. Select the required DB Home

  4. Click Modify DB Home.

  1. The Modify DB Home window appears. Modify the DB Home details as required. Same parameters as in adding DB Home

  2. To save your changes, click Modify.

See information about a DB Home

  1. On the navigation bar, click Targets.

  2. Select the required agent

  3. Select the required DB Home

  4. Click DB Home info.

The Info window appears.

  1. To return to the main Target Management work area, click Close.

Delete a DB Home

  1. On the navigation bar, click Targets.

  2. Select the required agent

  3. Select the required DB Home

  4. Click Remove DB Home.

  1. Click Remove to confirm the deletion or Cancel to exit without deleting the DB Home.

After the DB Home is removed, the following message appears: DB Home has been removed.
